European Record Drive

As an opening phase of the "21 bridges into the solarage " from the International SolarCenter Berlin we will organize a European record drive with an R & D solarcar from Paris towards Cologne to Berlin.

The team Helios takes this challenge. The car is built by students from the University in Lille, from France with a special construction for one of the biggest solarcar race in Australia, the World Solar Challenge, which will take place in october 99. They will have to cover a distance of 3.000 kilometres from Darwin to Adelaide.

Only with the 8 m2 solargenerator the team Helios has to run the distance between Paris and Berlin in less than twenty hours. This will be approximately a gasoline äquivalent of 0.17 liter to 100 kilometers. This record will demonstrate once again, that solarenergy in european regions is sufficient to drive pollution and CO2-free.

Small serial-solar-cars are able to take part. They have to define their distances by their one. In Berlin we will have a media-stop in front of the new parliament.

In Paris the start will be held by the director of the UNESCO , Division des Sciences de l'ingénieur et de la technologie, Mr. Boris Berkovski and in Cologne by the secretary of state Ms Gila Altmann from the ministry for environment, preservation and nuclearplant safety.
