The need for a multi-lingual, globally accessible, and
comprehensive electronic information system for the use of solar energy,
the "Solar Server”, was recognized in 1994. Important services are already
being performed now, prior to the erection of the ISC building in the "Virtual
International SolarCenter”. The easily operated Solar Server was set up in
April 1995 and has already proven its Internet service program in more than
455,000 link-ups (June '97) from more than 30 countries. In December 1995,
the Solar Server won Berlin's Solar Prize in the area of public relations.
The following information services are offered:
Informationen on the International SolarCenter
-
information on members
-
international advisory board
-
charter
-
state of development
-
plan of the site
-
excerpts from preliminary studies
Information for citizens
-
fundamentals of solar energy conversion
-
e-mail answering service
Solar address book
-
specialized regional, national, and international companies
-
associations and institutes concerned with solar energy conversion
-
current community, state, country, European Union, and UN promotion programs
for solar energy use
-
information on technology, energy policy, and events
-
worldwide links to almost all institutions and data banks concerned with
solar energy
-
current reports, pictures, and texts from events, conferences, and contests
are stored in the server and can be called up worldwide ("solar CNN”)
FUTURE PROJECS:
Learning on Internet
For the transition to a solar energy economy, the training of users, planners,
installers, and political decision-makers is extremely important - especially
in developing countries, whose wealth in sunlight means solar energy can
provide a major portion of the energy supply in the expansion of the energy
infrastructure. The solar server will offer appropriate correspondence courses
in the Internet.
Virtual tour
By wandering through the virtual building in the solar server, potentially
interested parties and users of the ISC from all over the world will be able
to "experience” and discover the SolarCenter even before construction is
completed.
Computer game
From mid-September 1996 on, the Server will provide access to a computer
game on the topic of energy and environment. |
