Solar energy compound - local solar energy systems

 

    The International SolarCenter offers the opportunity to develop exemplary solar energy supply strategies for downtown districts and to implement them in demonstrations. Regenerative energy collection and distribution connecting more than one building and property will integrate the buildings slated to be developed in the immediate vicinity into an overall supply system.

The individual building blocks of the supply strategy comprise the locally specific community supply structures (Mitte district's heating and power plant) as well as the potential Stralauer Platz represents with the buildings to be erected in the development area on the Spree River.

All suitable roof and facade surfaces can be activated as solar collectors and can be developed into an model solar-thermal and solar-electric compound. The heating and cooling potential of the Spree River and decentralized power-heating-cooling facilities can also be integrated into the building's technical system.

Beyond that, a key role among the ISC's activities will fall to local solar heating systems that use seasonal storage technologies and solar energy collected in the summer for space heating needs in the winter; these systems will be developed for suitable sites in the Berlin-Brandenburg region, as well as for transfers to Eastern Europe. Pilot projects are currently in development throughout Germany; sites are also already planned in Berlin.
